OH YEAH, I’m all about the CrossFit Kool-aid and I’ve been watching the 2014 CrossFit Games Regionals on the edge of my seat. These athletes are amazing, the best part is my 6 & 7 year old girls are very interested in watching the movements. Its exciting to see them excited about living a fit life style as they get ready to start CrossFit Kids this summer.
If you are anything like me, watching the games coverage on my phone, ipad or computer just doesn’t work. Its honestly a blessing that the content exists and its free and its amazing coverage! I just want to consume it from my couch like every other American errr I mean while doing mobility on the floor in front of my TV.
So watching on your TV doesn’t have to be a super huge pain. I was talking to someone about this solution today and it dawned on me to share it out so here’s how you can watch the live or archive footage on your living room TV for virtually nothing…
My TV is 5 years old, so presumably most TVs will be able to support this, otherwise stick to your computer.
What you’ll need to watch crossfit regionals live
1) A Computer/phone/or tablet with internet access if you can’t get to youtube you are already out of luck.
2) Home Wifi the devices need to connect using your home wifi.
3) TV with an HDMI and USB port, my Samsung is 5 years old and was a cheapy then so I imagine these features are fairly common, my TV also has these ports on the side, in a feature that’s very common to make it easy to connect video game consoles etc.
4) ChromeCast – You can get a ChromeCast at Walmart, Amazon or BestBuy even Staples, its $35, duckets or clams or whatever you call them.
5) have the Chrome browser installed on your machine, available here
How to set it up to watch CrossFit Games regionals live
Here’s what it looks like in the box –>
Once you have the ChromeCast you just have a few simple steps and you are eating paleo donuts and watching the games.
Open your chrome browser and go here:
You should see this and click download:
Click and install like normal, if you have a windows machine, I’m so sorry.
This should still work though 🙂 install as normal.
When that’s done, open the app and name your ChromeCast, I named mine GAINZ TV because OBVS.
WE ARE ALMOST GAMING
You should see the name of your Network in that blurry area up top, now click “Download Extension”
Ok, once the extension is added lets rock to this url: http://games.crossfit.com/archive/live nothing is streaming live today so I can’t show you those examples, but on Friday/Saturday/Sunday you can click to any stream you want, or use the above link.
So I clicked this link for this example:
PRO TIP: I found that the ChromeCast connected with less trouble directly from the youtube.com page, clicking youtube here, will get you to the youtube page for the stream you want to watch.
Once you get to the youtube page, bust out the paleo brownies.
Look in the bottom right for this ChromeCast icon:
Click it and chose the name of the ChromeCast device you want to use
Magical things happen between ChromeCast and your computer, switch your TV to the video input you plugged the ChromeCast into.. if you don’t know how to do this, maybe swimming or playing cards is more fun?
I hope this helps you watch Regional Games coverage on your TV, our family is loving every minute!
